Update Sept. 6 12:26 p.m. - Classes will be cancelled Monday for both the West Palm Beach and Orlando campuses.

With Hurricane Irma approaching South Florida this weekend, Palm Beach Atlantic University officials announced Tuesday evening the cancelation of classes for the West Palm Beach campus on Thursday and Friday of this week. University officials sent out an email to faculty, staff and students that the school will continue to monitor the progress of what is now a Category 5 hurricane.

Wednesday classes will proceed as normal. All West Palm Beach campus activities are canceled beginning Thursday. All classes at the Orlando campus will meet as scheduled through Thursday.

"The safety of our campus community is the priority at PBA," Associate Vice President for University Relations and Marketing Becky Peeling wrote in the email.

Due to the projected path of the storm, residence halls and campus dining will close at noon on Friday.
